Omerta: City of Gangster is a tactical simulation game with turn-based gameplay. It was developed by Haemimont Games and published by Kalypso Media. It was released on 31 January 2013 for Windows and Mac in German-speaking countries. Compared to other gangster games, Omerta is a little bit different. It's more realistic and focuses on the psychology of gangsters.
The game follows the same basic gameplay mechanics of popular gangster simulations, like Monopoly. The goal of the game is to amass wealth by owning property in early 20th century Atlantic City. However, there are differences. Omerta: City of Giants lets you purchase houses along Baltic Avenue, engage in cutthroat territorial acquisition, and even get jailed.
The PC version is the same as the console version. The game is a top-down, city management simulator that features turn-based combat and hackneyed voice acting. The game is also very polished, but isn't great for serious players. It's also available for free on Facebook, unlike most other games in this genre. The game's $40 asking price seems to be an attempt to recreate the obscene prices of Prohibition-era America.
Omerta: City of Gangster is a strategy game that puts you in the shoes of an immigrant who wants to become a mobster. Initially, you'll be hired to do small jobs, but as you expand your empire, you'll take over other mobsters' territory and become de-facto ruler of Atlantic City. There's nothing better than a challenge, but if you want a challenge, Omerta is the game for you.
